History
The Wikkelhouse was developed by Fiction Factory in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Its prototype was completed in May 2016. This modular dwelling introduced cardboard as a primary building material.
Architecture
Modular prefabricated construction. Each dwelling forms from tubular segments. Each segment comprises 24 layers of virgin fiber paperboard. Eco-friendly superglue bonds segments. A waterproof film and wooden cladding finish the exterior. Flax fiber forms part of the material composition. Each segment is 1.2 meters deep and weighs 500 kilograms. On-site assembly occurs in a single day.
Setting
Wikkelhouses require no foundation. This permits flexible placement on urban plots or within natural landscapes. The dwelling is transportable. It functions as either a temporary or permanent residence. Sunlight filters through surrounding environments, defining the interior mood.
