History
The Ark-Shelter cabin was built in 2018. Michiel De Backer and Martin Mikovčák of Ark Shelter Studio designed this prefabricated structure. It is known as the "Into the Wild cabin".
Architecture
The minimalist structure features dark spruce panels and extensive glass. Interiors utilize lacquered oak and spruce bio panels. It is a prefabricated, self-sufficient cabin. Solar panels, batteries, and a rainwater collector enable off-grid operation. Automated systems manage heating, cooling, and shading.
A central black box defines five distinct areas within the open-plan design. A hidden jacuzzi integrates beneath an automatic rising bed.
Setting
The cabin is located in the Kysuce region of North Slovakia. It integrates with the surrounding forest. Five openings frame specific natural views. Light shifts through the surrounding trees, drawing the forest inside.
Specifications
Floor area measures 40 m² (388 sqft). The structure operates completely off-grid. Systems include solar panels, batteries, and a rainwater collector. Automated controls regulate heating, cooling, and shading.
