History
Tham & Videgård Arkitekter designed the Mirrorcube. It opened in 2010. The design gained international recognition, appearing on Architectural Record and CNN. It forms a key part of the Treehotel concept.
Architecture
The Mirrorcube is a 4x4x4 meter cube. Its exterior is clad in mirrored glass. This glass is laminated with an ultraviolet film, visible only to birds. Interior walls are birch plywood. Floors are heated. This contemporary camouflage design uses high-tech materials.
Setting
The structure stands among tall pine trees in a dense boreal forest. It is located in Harads, northern Sweden, near the Arctic Circle. The cube hovers above the forest floor. Access is via a 12-meter-long rope bridge. Light filters through the pines, marking distinct hot summers and cold winters.
