History
The Slate Cabin was designed by Sydney-based architecture studio TRIAS. It was completed in 2017. The Welsh government commissioned the cabin for its 'Epic Retreats' project. The design draws inspiration from Wales's slate industry.
Architecture
The structure is minimalist in style. Its exterior is clad in reclaimed Welsh slate tiles. Interior finishes include birch plywood and woven hessian ceilings. Silvertop Ash joinery features throughout. Concrete footings support the cabin.
Setting
The cabin sits on the periphery of Snowdonia National Park in Mid Wales. It occupies a lush green valley, surrounded by windswept hills and grazing pastures. The setting responds to a harsh agrarian landscape. Light plays across the valley floor, revealing the dramatic terrain.
Specifications
Total area measures 13.8 square meters. The cabin serves as a vacation retreat.
