History
Moriyama House was designed by Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA. Construction completed in 2005.
Client Yasuo Moriyama commissioned the project. The design challenged conventional residential notions, breaking a single dwelling into independent volumes.
Architecture
The house exhibits a minimalist style. It comprises 10 independent white blocks or volumes. Materials include steel, glass, and white finishes. This arrangement breaks a single dwelling into a cluster, defining a new urban habitat.
Setting
Moriyama House stands within the dense urban landscape of Kamata, Tokyo, Japan. It occupies approximately half of its 290-square-meter plot. Small gardens and connecting paths open to the street. These elements blur the boundary between public and private realms, inviting light into its intimate spaces.
