History
A45, designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), functions as the initial prototype for Klein, a NYC-based tiny home company. Construction completed in 2018. The structure reinterprets the traditional A-frame cabin form.
Architecture
The structure utilizes a square base, rotated 45 degrees, which creates a crystal-like form. This design maximizes interior height up to 13 feet. Solid pine frames the structure. Douglas Fir forms the flooring. Natural cork lines interior walls. Cedar wood finishes the bathroom. A triangular floor-to-ceiling window integrates into the design.
Setting
The prototype stands in Upstate New York, within the Catskills Mountains. It serves as an off-grid getaway retreat. The structure elevates on four concrete piers, facilitating placement in remote areas. Natural light filters through the triangular floor-to-ceiling window, illuminating the minimal Nordic interior.
Specifications
Total floor area measures 17 square meters. Interior height reaches 13 feet. The modular house assembles on site. Materials include solid pine framing, Douglas Fir flooring, and natural cork interior walls. The bathroom features cedar wood.
