History
Mary Arnold-Forster Architects designed the Wee House. Construction finished around 2021. The house was assembled from 13 off-site modular sections.
The project received significant recognition. It was shortlisted for the RIBA House of the Year in 2021. The Scottish Forestry/Wood for Good Award went to the house in 2021.
Architecture
The house employs a contemporary, modular style. Cross Laminated Timber forms the primary structure. Wood-fibre insulation provides thermal integrity. Exterior walls wear charred timber cladding.
Expansive glass panels allow views. The building utilizes modular timber construction.
Setting
The house stands in Assynt, North West Highlands of Scotland. It occupies a remote, windswept landscape. Rocky outcrops define the immediate site. The setting provides views of Loch Nedd and the Quinag mountains.
The site sits within the Assynt-Coigach National Scenic Area. Access requires travel along a steep, eight-mile single-track road. Light shifts dramatically across the vast Scottish sky.
Specifications
The Wee House serves as a vacation category dwelling. Interior floor area totals 100 square meters.
