History
The Perch was designed by Nicole Blair, LLC. Construction completed in 2021. This studio space fits above an existing Austin bungalow. City setback constraints influenced its angles, shape, and size.
Architecture
The 61 m² structure employs corrugated Corten steel. Four steel columns support the volume. Expanded metal forms parts of the exterior. Interior finishes include white oak, pine, and pink cabinetry. The shop-built structure was craned into place.
Setting
The Perch is located in Austin, Texas. It sits above an existing bungalow, preserving the mature landscape below. Four steel columns pierce the bungalow walls. The structure provides densification within City of Austin building parameters. Light shifts through the surrounding trees.
Specifications
Completed studio space, 61 m². Supported by four steel columns. Cantilevered structure. Shop-built unit, craned into position.
