History
Rosa Muerta was designed by ARCO mais, with Paulo Lima and Chiara Bettelli as lead architects. Construction completed in 2015. The design sought to create openness and harmony with nature.
Architecture
The house is a minimalist concrete and glass structure. Its simple concrete frame does not touch the ground, appearing to float. Sliding glass panels blur interior and exterior lines. The total area is 76 square meters.
Setting
Rosa Muerta is situated on the northern side of São Miguel Island in Rabo de Peixe, Azores. High stone walls enclose the plot. The building sits at the western end, almost invisible from the street. Open views extend over surrounding fields and woods. Light and shadows define its presence.
