History
Poli House, also known as CASAPOLI, was initiated in 2003. Pezo von Ellrichshausen designed the structure. It was built in 2005, commissioned by Eduardo Meissner and Rosmarie Prim for 63,000 USD. The building functions as a private non-profit cultural institution.
Architecture
The structure presents a minimalist and brutalist approach. It consists of concrete and untreated wood. Simple geometry defines its form. Service functions are organized into an oversized peripheral shell, within thick walls that act as a buffer zone. Rooms are left without predefined functions, connecting as empty spaces.
Setting
The house stands on the Coliumo peninsula in Chile, 50 kilometers southwest of Concepción. Its site is a jagged cliff edge. The Pacific Ocean fronts the building. Rural countryside, home to farmers and fishermen, surrounds the property. The structure captures the dizzying open space of the sea and the vastness of the horizon.
Specifications
Floor area measures 180 m².
