History
Pitágoras House was completed in 2005 in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Atelier Bow-Wow founders Yoshiharu Tsukamoto and Momoyo Kaijima designed the structure. It functions as a residential home and architectural studio. The house embodies Atelier Bow-Wow's 'Pet Architecture' concept.
Architecture
The design reflects Modern and Pet Architecture principles. The external wall is covered with granule-faced asphalt. Steel and glass are construction materials. Varying stair landings create different levels of privacy. A system uses well water for radiant cooling and heating.
Setting
The house occupies a challenging 'flag-shaped site' in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. It stands within a densely built urban environment, surrounded by neighboring houses. Access is via a narrow strip of land from the street.
