History
The Hiragana-no Spiral House was built in 2016. Yuko Nagayama & Associates designed the structure. It was known as "Hiragana-no Spiral House -Panasonic × Yuko Nagayama-" and featured in HOUSE VISION 2.
The design features a circular wall. This wall takes the spiral shape of the hiragana character "no" (の). Nagayama preferred a house of lightness, not found in solid brick.
Architecture
A circular wall encloses the house. This wall naturally guides visitors from the entrance. The curved wall surface functions as a display screen for movies, video links, and websites.
An island kitchen stands as an independent structure. Toilet and bath facilities are grouped centrally. The bedroom is positioned directly above these central facilities.
Setting
The house is located in Tokyo, Japan. Its design offers a spatial composition free from conventional square corners, suited for an urban context. Light shifts across the curved surfaces, marking the day's progress.
Specifications
The house utilizes a circular wall for its primary structure. The curved wall integrates display screen functionality. A weather vane sensor on the roof communicates outdoor conditions to residents.
Internal layout includes an independent island kitchen. Centralized grouping of toilet and bath facilities supports the bedroom above.
