History
Cabin Rones by Sanden+Hodnekvam Architects. Completed 2018. It resembles a secluded hiking shelter.
The design adapted to a steep site. A large rock on site became the building's back. Architect John Sanden stated this offered "a natural shelter." The project aimed for a feeling of seclusion.
Architecture
The structure is minimal. A protective concrete back wall anchors the building. An open glass facade faces the view. The ground floor is concrete.
The upper level uses cross-laminated timber. Norwegian pine, birch plywood, black roofing felt, and copper are present materials.
Setting
The cabin sits in Rones, Steinkjer. This location is 150 km north of Trondheim, Norway. It overlooks the Beitstadfjorden.
The site is steep and rugged. Existing vegetation remains preserved. Sunlight illuminates the fjord views.
